It’s hard to make the final decision to put your loved one in a nursing home, and it’s even more difficult to decide which nursing home would be best for them. Since nursing home neglect and abuse happens more often that you would think, it’s important to research potential nursing homes thoroughly before you decide where to place your loved one. Here are three tips on how to choose the best nursing home:

Use nursing home compare tools: The best way to protect your loved one from nursing home abuse and neglect is to use tools to research the nursing homes in your area to see how they rate. These tools compare nursing homes in your state based on the deficiencies cited by regulators and the penalties imposed in the past few years. A few different nursing home inspect tools available are Medicare’s, ProPublica’s and U.S News and World Report’s.

Visit nursing homes a few times: When you visit a nursing home, it’s important to not just go once, but to go at least three times during different parts of the day and on different days. Then you can see what the supervisors and staff are like for each shift. Take in the smells and sounds and how the staff is interacting with the residents. Try to attend any family council meetings at the nursing home, so you can talk with families and see what the nursing home is really like.

Ask key questions: It can be hard to know what to ask a nursing home, but the most important questions you can ask are if the nursing home practices “person-centered care,” as well as “consistent assignment”. Person-centered care means your loved one could make up their own schedule and eat and sleep whenever they please. Consistent assignment means the same staff members would look after your loved one everyday to help them feel more at home.

Even after doing all you can to choose a good nursing home for your loved one, they could still experience nursing home abuse or neglect. If your loved one is a nursing home abuse victim, a nursing home abuse attorney can help them get the justice they are entitled to. Contact the Law Offices of W.T.

Recently See’s Candies recalled its milk and dark chocolate covered raisins because they contain the allergens of nuts and eggs, but don’t state so on their packaging. If you are allergic to nuts and eggs, you could have a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if you eat these products, but no illnesses have been reported yet.

The food recall was issued after a retail store employee found a chocolate covered pecan in the raisin bulk pack. The candies were made in a factory with shared lines that produce candies with nuts, so there is a chance that nut and egg residue might be in some of the chocolate covered raisins.

The recalled products were distributed through See’s Candies Retail Stores, Licensees and Mail Order. The recalled raisins were sold in bulk and packaged at the stores in 8-oz clear cellophane bags. If you purchased the recalled raisins and are sensitive to nuts and eggs, do not eat them and return them to where you bought them for a full refund or exchange.

You should never have to worry about food you purchased harming you, but food poisonings occur more often that you would think because of negligent companies. Food poisoning is a serious issue and can lead to injury or even death. If you or a loved one were the victim of a food poisoning, you deserve compensation for your emotional and physical turmoil. Contact the Law Offices of W.T.

Dallas car accidents occur every day from fender-benders to fatal hit-and-runs, and many occur due to the negligence of a driver. It’s important to refresh yourself on how to be a safe driver, so you can prevent being in a Dallas car accident. Here are four tips on how you can avoid getting in a car accident:

Don’t use the fast lane: Through driving in the center lane, or right lane of multi-lane roads, it’s easier to have a way out if you need to pull over to the shoulder or suddenly switch lanes. Most car accidents occur in the far left fast lane.

Watch your blind spots: Your mirrors can’t show you everything around you. It’s important to turn your head to look to see if there is anything in the lane next to you before switching lanes. Try to stay out of other driver’s blind spots as much as possible, especially truckers to avoid getting in a truck accident.

Have control of your steering wheel: It’s vital to keep your hands at 9 and 3 on the steering wheel to make sure you have maximum vehicle control if you’re forced into quick maneuvering to avoid a car accident. To give you even more control of the wheel, move your seat close enough to the wheel so that your wrist can rest on the wheel with your arm outstretched, and your back against the seat.

Take good care of your car: You can judge drivers by looking at their cars, if they are dirty and damaged, it’s likely the driver is inattentive. Also, it’s important to stick to the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule to make sure your car will stop and steer properly when you need it to.

Even after driving carefully, you can still become the victim of a Dallas car accident due to inattentive drivers. If you or a loved one have been injured in a Dallas car accident, contact the Law Offices of W.T.

If have ever been a victim of food poisoning, you know how miserable it can be. Food poisoning not only causes illness, but can even in some cases lead to death. If you are suffering from food poisoning, it’s important to take care of yourself, so it doesn’t get worse. Here are four tips on how to recover from food poisoning:

Stay hydrated: If you have food poisoning, you lose a lot of fluids through vomiting or diarrhea. Replace your fluids through staying hydrated with water in order avoid dehydration. Also, avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine, which can dehydrate you even more.

Eat mild foods: The National Institutes of Health recommends eating foods that will go easy on your stomach: broth, soup, fruit juices, soft fruits, vegetables and liquid solutions like Pedialyte, but avoid eating foods high in dairy, fat, fiber and sugar.

Rest well: Since your body is working hard to fight off the infection, you will feel very tired. It’s important to listen to your body and rest, so you can get back to health quickly.

Avoid taking anti-diarrhea medicine: Diarrhea from food poisoning is used by the body to quickly expel your food-borne illness. It is recommended that you do not take any anti-diarrhea medicine, so your body can get rid of your toxins.

If you or a loved one were a victim of food poisoning, you deserve compensation for your physical and emotional trauma. You can talk to an experienced food poisoning attorney about your case by contacting the Law Offices of W.T.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states that, in 2010, 673 people were killed and an estimated 122,000 were injured in crashes that involved red light-running. To prevent these car accidents, many cities like Dallas have put up red light cameras that send the driver who ran a red light a ticket in the mail. Even though this should prevent car accidents at Dallas intersections, it seems that sometimes red light cameras cause car accidents.

In a study done by the North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University for the U.S. Department of Transportation, researchers looked at 303 intersections over a 57-month period. The study findings stated that instead of reducing crashes, red light cameras are associated with higher levels of many types and severity categories of crashes.

A 2007 Virginia Research Council study had more mixed results, finding that the red light cameras are associated with an increase in rear-end crashes and a decrease in red light running car accidents. Researches recommend evaluating the need for red-light cameras on a case-by-case basis.

Some believe that cities support red light cameras because when people pay off their tickets, it increases city income. In Fort Worth, records show cameras have generated $23 million. The camera generating the most money is on the West Freeway Frontage Road at Ashland Avenue, bringing in $1.7 million since 2008.

Dallas car accidents occur at many intersections and highways every day. If you or a loved one were the victim of a negligent driver, a Dallas car accident attorney can help you get the compensation you deserve. Contact the Law Offices of W.T.
The recalled frozen fruit mix includes pomegranate seeds imported from Turkey, which the company said might be the source of the virus that has affected 49 people in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.

The berries were sold in Costco stores on the West Coast and in Harris Teeter stores in the Southeast. The CDC said workers handling ingredients in the recalled food may not have washed their hands properly, which most likely lead to the food poisoning.

Traumatic brain injuries occur often to men and women, usually due to the negligence of someone else. Research has shown that men and women use their brains differently, and their brains are even structured differently. So does this mean that men and women recover differently from brain injuries?

There hasn’t been much research done to determine if men and women recover differently from brain injuries. But statistics show that more men receive traumatic brain injuries than women. This is most likely because men are involved in more risk-taking behaviors than women, and are usually the driver of fatal car accidents.

But during one traumatic brain injury study, men and women with mild to severe traumatic brain injury were compared on measures of cognitive skills typically affected by traumatic brain injuries.

Overall, the findings suggested that cognitive outcome after brain injury does not differ according to gender, with the possible exception of memory functioning. Women with a mild TBI scored significantly higher than men on a test of visual memory.

Other research has shown that even after a brain injury, women’s superior verbal fluency may falsely show their outcome to appear better than it actually is. So sometimes women might be discharged before sufficient recovery.

Traumatic brain injuries usually occur to men and women because of accidents that could have been prevented. If you or a loved one were the victim of a traumatic brain injury, you deserve justice for your emotional and physical trauma. Contact the Law Offices of W.T. If you are headed to the lake this summer, it’s important to keep in mind these five causes of boating accidents to protect yourself from harm:

Operator Inexperience: One of the top causes of boating accidents is when the boat operator is inexperienced. It’s important for anyone who is going to be driving the boat to take a boating safety class to learn boating laws, how to man a boat during an emergency and how to avoid boating accidents.

Operator Inattention: The next biggest cause of boating accidents is when a boat driver isn’t paying attention and ends up running into another boat or someone in the water. It’s easy to lose focus on driving a boat when there is so much to enjoy or do on the water, but remember that after you stop driving you can take part in the fun too.

Alcohol: When you are out on the water, it’s easy to have a few drinks and not realize that your blood alcohol level might be over the legal limit. The same rules that apply to driving a car while intoxicated apply to driving a boat, so it’s important to always have a designated boat driver to protect your life and the lives of others.

Equipment Failure: It’s important to keep up with your boat maintenance since boat equipment problems and carbon monoxide poisoning are leading causes of boating accidents.

Reckless Behavior: Many boating accidents occur when passengers or drivers are acting reckless. You should always avoid:

allowing a passenger to ride on the bow, transom or gunwales of your boat while you are driving

intentionally splashing other boats

jumping a wake in the vicinity of another boat while on a boat

During summer, more pedestrians are walking around Dallas and enjoying the sunshine. That’s why it’s important to know how to drive safely in areas of Dallas with high pedestrian traffic, so you can protect yourself from getting in a pedestrian accident. Here are four tips on how to drive safely in pedestrian areas:

Know when to yield: In America, most of the time pedestrians have the right of way. If an intersection doesn’t have a signal, if a pedestrian has started to cross, allow them to cross first. You should also yield when pedestrians are crossing a sidewalk or entering an alley or driveway.

Slow down: If you are driving in a neighborhood, apartment community, parking lot or downtown area, it’s important to slow down. Many times pedestrian accidents occur because the driver was going too fast and didn’t see the pedestrian in time.

Be on the alert: When driving near pedestrians, it’s best to always assume that a pedestrian might jaywalk or jump into the road without warning. Keep this in mind when driving around pedestrians.

Don’t pass another vehicle stopped at a crosswalk: Even if you don’t see anyone crossing, it’s important to never pass a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk, no matter how much of a hurry you are in, in order to protect your life and the lives of others.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2010, 4,280 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 70,000 were injured in traffic crashes in the United States. On average, a pedestrian was killed every two hours and injured every eight minutes in traffic crashes.

If you or a loved one were the victim of a pedestrian accident due to a negligent driver, you deserve justice. Contact the pedestrian accident attorneys at the Law Offices of W.T.
