We know what it takes to win.

“Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.”

By The Law Office of WT Johnson on August 30, 2012

Over the upcoming Labor Day weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation’s, “Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.” campaign will be in full force. Last year seven people were killed because of alcohol-related crashes during the Labor Day holiday weekend.

More alcohol-related crashes occur between 2 a.m. and 2:59 a.m. than at any other time during the day, and more of those crashes occur on Saturday than any other day. In Texas, 34 percent of all alcohol-related fatal crashes occur in the summertime. Last year, 366 people died from May to August because of alcohol-related crashes.

Those who are convicted of drunk driving can spend up to $17,000 in legal fees, insurance costs, bail and court costs.

TxDOT has asked people to pledge to choose a safe ride home by texting CHOOSE to 67664. Those who make the pledge will be entered to win a donated Honda Ruckus scooter and helmet.

A mobile simulated jail cell was driven around Texas the weeks before Labor Day to attract attention to the legal and social consequences of drinking and driving. People climbed on board and completed a DWI knowledge quiz. Even bars and restaurants are joining in by allowing TxDOT to install “Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.” bathroom mirror clings that look like mug shot cut-outs.

If you or a loved one was the victim of a drunk driver, you don’t need to suffer any longer because of their tragic mistake. You should contact the Law Office of W.T. Johnson as soon as possible to get the justice you and your loved one are entitled to.
